Lots of Bugs Around at the Moment… Here’s Why

You may have noticed that flu and all sorts of bugs seem to be doing the rounds at the moment, and the news is full of talk about measles and meningitis outbreaks.

As we move towards the Spring Equinox, this is actually something I see most years. This seasonal shift doesn’t just happen out there in nature — it happens within us too. Sleep can be disturbed, the children develop colds and earaches, skin can flare up and you might feel more tired or out of sorts than usual.

The energy of the Spring Equinox has been building behind the scenes for the past few weeks and reaches its peak this Saturday. It doesn’t cause illness, but it does trigger movement in the system.  In fact, the energetic direction of our lymph flips completely to travel up the back and down the front.  This requires huge wherewithal (energy).

After the slower, darker, heavier winter months, perhaps your system is a little out of balance.  Viruses and bacteria may have found their perfect spot - in your body, if the conditions are right such as acidity and lack of light.  Coughs, colds, tiredness or the need to rest is a way of clearing things through. Not pleasant I know, but often part of a natural reset as we move into the lighter, more active energy of spring.

If you’re not feeling that lift in energy yet and instead feel sluggish, flat, or like your system just can’t get going, it may be a sign your body needs a bit of extra support to clear what it’s been holding on to. You might also notice this shift emotionally.  Anxious, feeling unsettled, not quite sure where you’re heading, the Spring Equinox marks the start of a new season, the astrological new year, and a real point of new beginnings.

It’s a powerful time to let go of what’s been and set an intention for what you'd like next, even if you don’t feel completely ready yet.  We are co-creators with the universe after all!
